El cambio climático amenaza la existencia misma de algunas islas del Caribe "Desde 2009, más de un centenar de pequeños Estados insulares en desarrollo, países menos adelantados y muchos otros han pedido que se limite el aumento de la temperatura global a 1,5°C por encima de los niveles preindustriales para evitar los peores impactos del cambio climático. La inclusion del límite de temperatura de 1,5°C en el Acuerdo de París de 2015 fue una gran victoria para los países vulnerables".
